Oddly Unique
Take a look around, no two anythings are exactly the same! Isn’t that the coolest? When we look at this in regards to people, each and everyone of us is unique, the only one of our kind; unlike anything else. That’s not all, we are odd, different from what is usual or expected; strange. We can easily see the oddities in others, not even realizing that others likely find us to be just as special. We could just refer to this as personality traits, quirks, if you will. We all have them, and it’s fun to observe those in others, but what about our own? I’ll start.
I have this strange thing that I do in my head, pretty much 24/7. I am constantly counting, like everything, and I can’t stop until I somehow come up with an even number. For instance, my facial features, 2 eyebrows, 2 eyes, one nose, 2 nostrils, a mouth, and a pair of ears, that equals 10. Ya’ll that’s odd 😂 We go to our local LongHorn Steakhouse fairly frequently. As you enter the door and look straight ahead towards the bar, there’s a piece of metal art along that wall. It has cowboys on it, doing various cowboy stuff. If anyone ever asks, there’s 14 total cowboys, you’re welcome :)
My next “trait” that I care to lean into, has to do with something that I do with words. I do this pretty much everywhere, in the grocery store, as I look at road signs, anytime really. It has nothing to do with syllables, but I like to break them into two equal parts, or three equal parts, if the word is super long. Let me see if I can actually verbalize this, let’s say it’s something simple like the word beef. I’d separate that into be-ef, but let’s say the word is steak. I’d mentally underline the st, circle the e, and underline the ak, the circled letters indentify those that keep the word from breaking evenly. I don’t physically do this, but I do move my tongue along the back of my bottom teeth to make the motions of either underlining or circling 🤪 straight up weird, I know!
Lastly, is my intense obsession with making lists. Each January, I shop for a cute spiral bound notebook. This year, I used an orange one that I already had, because I was doing no spend January, which was also no fun, but anyway, I’ll use that notebook to make ALL my lists for the year. Sometimes, I combine multiple lists to make one big list, or even fold some lists away, if they don’t seem relevant anymore. I fold them away in the event that I need them for some type of reference. The pages of my notebook are folded alternatively from the top half down to the middle point of the page and then from the bottom half up to the middle point of the page, this technique forms a very satisfying capital V. It also ensures that I always use the next available, empty page. I don’t know exactly where, but somewhere in the Bible, it says you aren’t supposed to skip pages, in a notebook. I especially love to make lists when we go on vacation. I list all the things that I think a beach condo should have, although I don’t have one, but rest assured, if I ever get one, it’ll be well stocked, based on my years of research 😜
I’ve always thought that some of my tendencies were rather strange, but I don’t suppose they hurt anybody, and they keep me amused, so I’ve never worried too much about it. What about you? Do you care to put yourself out there? Personally, I think we’re all a bunch of weirdos. Since we’re all basically swimming in the same pool, let’s laugh with each other. I’ll be curious to see if any of us share any of the same unique qualities 🥰
